I’ve just created the release for Flickr Gallery 1.0. The version number has been increased to a new major release because I’ve added some pretty important new features. You will hopefully be seeing it in your WordPress admin panels by the time you read this. Be sure to test it out and send me any problems you see with it. You can leave a comment on this post, or send me an email through the contact form on this site.
New features:
- New lightbox script custom made for this plugin. Why do we need another lightbox, you ask? This one allows you to show your Flickr photos (and videos) in a lightbox, but still be compliant with the Flickr API Terms of Service by providing a link back to the photo page.
- Using the WordPress plugin API, you can now alter the tabs in the default gallery to show just about anything you want. You can find more about that on the plugin’s page on this site (under “projects”).
- Photos in sets are now show in a panel that appears below the set data. There is a link back to Flickr, of course.
Update version 1.0.1
- Pointed “powered by” link to the CodeMeme project page
- Fixed XHTML errors
- Set the llightbox to turn on by default (this won’t affect you if you’ve manually turned it off)

Thanks in advance!

Finally there is a way I can connect my blog with my Flickr photos without actually having to leave the site. Great work!! I love the Lightbox option. That’s just what i wanted. It would be even better if bigger photos would show but hey, i cant complain at all. great job! Thanks!
The problem with photos larger than the “medium” size is that they won’t always be there. There’s no good way to tell whether the larger sized image will be there at all in a purely Javascript lightbox. If I pulled that data in over the API, it would require one call per photo displayed. That would slow your app down to a crawl and would not be worth it.
No problem. As it works its just great. Thanks!
Hello, first of all, thank you for this plugin!! I love it.
Is there an easy way to customize the lightbox styles/features/animations?
If I stare at js long enough I can usually figure out what’s going on, but wondering if there’s a faster, easier way, or if you can just point me to the spot in the js where these options can be changed.
Thanks a ton!
Right now, there is no easy way. I’ll add that to my list for version 1.1.
thanks for the quick reply!
If I can only suggest something. I just love the way Lightview Plus works. It would be much better alternative to Lightview. Anyways, great plugin!

Love your plug-in…any way to get a widget for my sidebar/footer that could stream my flickr sets or stream? I found one i’m using right now…kinda ugly compared to your work…thanks…

If you install my Sidebar Shortcodes plugin, you can use Flickr Gallery’s shortcodes inside a standard sidebar text widget.
Baby oh baby, Dan, that is perfect…thank you…made my day…now I can sleep a bit before gettin’ to loadin’ my site up with photos…If i was in Greenville I’d hug you…

Short ps. Dan…I just tried to ‘donate’ a few bucks and the paypal interface isn’t working…it keeps zeroing the amount back zero when i fill in the vitals…
Hrm. I wish there was an easy way I could test that to see if that problem was isolated to you. If you’d still like to donate, you can use dan -at- dancoulter.com as my paypal address.
You know what, let me wait a day or two, see if that transaction didn’t take place, I tried it a few times, and if not I’ll write to you about an alternative…I do appreciate what your work is helping me to do…kind regards…

Hey Dan…ok, this morning instead of using Safari I tried donate with Firefox and it worked fine there, normal windows, prefs, etc…thanks again…
oh, I see you have updated flickr gallery…how would I update the flickr 1.0 that I currently have in my wp files?…I mean is it as simple as deactivating the one there now and uploading and activating the new one?…
kind regards
M
